VOLLEYBALL Arkansas still looking for first victory Arkansas fell to 0-5 for the season with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-16 loss to Michigan on Saturday in the Georgia Tech Classic in Atlanta. Senior Yun Tang had a career-best seven kills to tie Kelli Stipanovich for the team high for the Lady Razorbacks. Harding splits matches in Huntsville Harding split two matches Saturday, getting swept by West Alabama then sweeping Alabama-Huntsville in the UAH Invitational in Huntsville. Manuela Nesheva led the Lady Bisons (5-3 ) in the West Alabama loss with 10 kills, and Leah Tepe had 31 assists. In the second match, Nesheva had 11 kills. UALR suffers first loss UALR lost for the first time this season, falling 15-25, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25 to Colorado on Friday in the Emerald Beach Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas. Anita Bucur led UALR (3-1 ) with 16 kills, while Amila Barakovic had 15 kills and 19 digs. Amy Hafner led the team in digs with 24, and Guiliana De Francesco had 69 assists. Central Arkansas perfect host Central Arkansas swept through its tournament, adding a 25-15, 25-7, 25-22 victory over Jackson State on Saturday after beating Centenary and Mississippi Valley State on the first two nights of the UCA Classic in Conway. UCA (4-2 ) was led against Jackson State by Jessica Hays’ 15 kills. Tournament MVP Chloe Smith followed with 12 kills and four blocks, and Robyn Smith had 39 assists. Henderson State loses sixth in row Henderson State’s losing streak moved to six matches with losses to North Alabama and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in the North Alabama Classic in Florence. The Lady Reddies fell to North Alabama 25-20, 25-21, 25-14 in the opener, then lost 25-16, 28-26, 25-22 to Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. Bethany Wright led HSU in kills in both matches with 15 and 16, respectively. Ouachita Baptist still winless Ouachita Baptist dropped to 0-6 this season with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 loss to Cameron and 27-25, 25-19, 25-23 to Texas Women’s. Meredith Henry had 18 kills, Lauren Stuart 15 digs and Lexie Hegi 43 assists to lead OBU against Texas Women’s. Loss follows 8-0 start for Arkansas Tech Arkansas Tech improved to 8-0 Saturday with a 17-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 15-8 victory over Rockhurst College in Bolivar, Mo., then lost 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16 to Wayne State College. It was the best start for Arkansas Tech since moving to NCAA Division II in 1995. Laura Farney had a team-high 13 kills in the victory. Brennae Benda had 30 digs and Kayla Allison 49 assists. In the loss, Arkansas Tech’s Rachel Urquhart had 13 kills and 13 digs.
SOCCER O’Connor, Williams lead UA to victory Kelly O’Connor had her first two-goal performance and goalkeeper Britni Williams got her second shutout of the season as Arkansas beat Jacksonville State 4-0 in the Adidas Gamecock Classic in Jacksonville, Ala. O’Connor’s goals gave the Lady Razorbacks (3-1 ) a 2-0 lead in the 28 th minute. Kathleen Paulsen scored on a header in the second half, and Beth McVean finished the scoring in the 89 th minute. Arkansas State improves to 3-0 Arkansas State scored three goals in the second half to beat Centenary 3-2 in Shreveport and extend its best start in program history. The Red Wolves (3-0 ) got their first goal in the 45 th minute from Kara Nitti, then went ahead 2-0 in the 61 st minute when Kai Gear scored off a rebound. Centenary tied it with two goals in less than a minute before Ana Kalghirou scored the game-winner. John Brown teams defeated The John Brown women’s team lost 3-1 to Oral Roberts on Friday, but scored first against its Division I opponent on Lizzie Nelson’s goal in the 32 nd minute. The men’s team (2-2 ) lost 3-0 to Hannibal-LaGrange. Ozarks tops host team University of the Ozarks scored twice in the second half to beat Sewanee 2-1 in the Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational on Friday in Sewanee, Tenn. Ozarks (3-0 ) went in front 1-0 on Anthony Santoro’s first goal of the season in the 55 th minute before Matt Engelman gave it a 2-0 lead three minutes later. Hendrix men fall to Texas Baptist The Hendrix men’s team lost to Texas Baptist 2-0 on Saturday in Conway. Texas Baptist scored in the 33 rd and 57 th minutes. Hendrix shuts out LeTourneau First-year goalkeeper Allison Mosley got her second consecutive shutout to lead Hendrix to a 2-0 victory over LeTourneau on Friday in Conway. Hendrix (2-0 ) scored in the second half on goals by Blair Sanning and Caitlin McGeehan.
