Three Collen recruits are declared ineligible Three Arkansas women’s basketball signees recently were declared ineligible and will not be with the team when fall practice opens, Coach Tom Collen announced via a news release Saturday. Freshman Quistelle Williams, junior college transfer Starkitsha Luellen and Australian transfer Cara Angel were declared ineligible for various, unspecified reasons, reducing Arkansas’ roster to 12 players. Collen did not issue a comment in the news release. The incoming class still contains six players, including guards Ceira Ricketts of Louisville, Ky., and Lyndsay Harris of Hoover, Ala. Both generally are considered top-100 national recruits. Julie Inman of Carlisle also is part of the incoming class. Seniors Whitney Jones and Ayana Brereton lead a group of six returning players.

— Rob Keys SOCCER Razorbacks fall in home opener A shot by Tulsa’s Kayla Chambers found the back of the Arkansas goal at the 46: 29 mark and lifted the visiting Golden Hurricane (2-1 ) to a 1-0 victory over the Razorbacks (1-1 ) on Friday night in front of 802 fans at Razorback Field. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak against the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa last won at Razorback Field during the 2002 season.

Red Wolves roll Arkansas State scored five of its seven goals in the first half, and freshman forward Sofia Turesson of Sweden had a hat trick as the Red Wolves (2-0 ) beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7-0 at the ASU Soccer Complex on Friday. Turesson was the second ASU player in as many games to record a hat trick. She led all players with three goals and four shots. Freshman midfielder Kailey Gear scored three goals in ASU’s opening match against Central Arkansas on Aug. 23. Kentucky tops UCA Kentucky’s men scored four goals in the first half and beat Central Arkansas 6-0 on Friday, the season opener for both teams, in front of 902 at the UK Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Taylor White had two goals in the first half for Kentucky. Michael Strong also had two goals for the Wildcats. Ricky Garcia recorded the lone shot for the Bears, firing wide in the 25 th minute. Kentucky had 16 shots, with 10 on goal. The Bears close out play in the tournament today against Evansville. Hendrix wins in overtime Hendrix College junior midfielder Will Brown came through with a game-winning goal off a penalty kick inside the box during the 102 nd minute as the Warriors beat Louisiana College 2-1 in the season opener Saturday afternoon in Conway. Ozarks men set records in rout The University of the Ozarks men’s team set a school record for goals (15 ) and shots (53 ) in a shutout victory against Central Bible College (0-1 ) on Saturday in Clarksville. Shaun Renfro had two goals and two assists for Ozarks. In women’s action, Texas College (2-2 ) took a 2-0 victory over Ozarks (0-1 )).

Arkansas falls to 0-3 Arkansas lost two matches at the Hilton Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., on Saturday, falling to Denver 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 and Eastern Washington 25-23, 25-12, 25-14. The Razorbacks are 0-3 under first-year Coach Robert Pulliza, including Friday’s 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 loss to No. 17 Colorado State. Kelli Stipanovich led all hitters with 10 kills and had six digs and a block for Arkansas in the match against Denver. ASU takes title in Houston The Arkansas State Red Wolves (3-0 ) completed their run through the Texas Southern volleyball tournament Saturday, sweeping The Citadel 3-0 to claim the tournament championship in Houston. Arkansas State defeated the Bulldogs 25-13, 25-14, 25-19. The Red Wolves did not drop a set the entire weekend after defeating Mississippi Valley State and Texas Southern 3-0 Friday to open the tournament. Junior outside hitter Konae Purcell led ASU with 14 kills in the match, hitting. 619 on the day. Amila Barakovic, named to the all-tournament team, led the Trojans in kills with 15 and attack percentage with a. 429 mark, while Anita Bucur, named MVP of the tournament, had 13 kills. Amy Hafner, also named to the all-tournament team, had a team-high 14 digs.

UCA falls to New Mexico Central Arkansas lost in three sets to New Mexico in the first match of the season at the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic on Friday night in Albuquerque, N. M. The host Lobos won 25-19, 25-17, 25-18. Sugar Bears sophomore middle blocker Chloe Smith led the offense with six kills. Senior outside hitter Natalie Lundquist had five kills and three blocks. Senior libero Kelly Bence racked up 10 digs and junior Robyn Smith had 25 assists and eight digs. UCA was scheduled to play Loyola Marymount and Idaho State on Saturday. Harding takes two in Alaska Harding (2-2 ) swept Ohio Valley in two matches Saturday to take third place in the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska, winning 25-17, 25-10, 25-13 and then 25-8, 25-9, 25-3. In the first match, Harding was led by 13 kills from junior outside hitting star Manuela Nesheva, who only played in the first two games. Senior middle blocker Shellie Rummer and junior outside hitter Sarah Phipps each had seven kills for the Lady Bisons in the third-place game.

ATU sweeps two Arkansas Tech opened swept both its matches Friday on the first day of the fourth annual Arkansas Tech / Super 8 Spikefest at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. It beat Drury (25-21, 25-22, 25-23 ) and then Cameron (25-13, 25-20, 25-16 ) to open 2-0 for the fourth consecutive season. Senior middle blocker Dana Florian had a match-high 11 kills against Drury, and against Cameron, senior outside hitter Racheal Urquhart had 10 kills. OBU drops two in Pensacola Ouachita Baptist lost two matches Saturday to wrap up play at the University of West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational in Pensacola, Fla., falling to St. Joseph’s, 25-16, 25-6, 25-18, and North Carolina-Pembroke, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-10. Kaitlyn Mitcham had 13 kills against UNC-Pembroke.

CROSS COUNTRY UALR men, women win For the second consecutive season, the UALR men’s and women’s swept the Tech Twilight Run in Russellville. The men scored 25 points, while the women recorded 39 points to win Friday’s run. UALR seniors Aaron Batey and Whitney Kerth won the individual events with course record times. Kerth won the men’s 4-mile race in 19 minutes, 58 seconds, while Kerth won the 2-mile race in 11: 07. UALR’s men had five runners in the top 10. The UALR women had three in the top 10.
