ARKANSAS TECH Tech prepares for scrimmage The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys practiced in a light rain Wednesday and will hold their final scrimmage of the fall at 7 p. m. today. Coach Steve Mullins said the scrimmage will be like a dress rehearsal for the Aug. 28 season and home opener against Northeastern State. Mullins, in his 12 th year, said the scrimmage will consist of two quarters and will feature Gulf South Conference officials. In Tech’s first scrimmage on Saturday, the offense gained almost 500 total yards. Mullins also announced his team’s captains, voted on by the players. Offensive captains are senior quarterback Cole Barthel, junior center Torrence Wright and senior receiver Tracey Stiger. Defensive captains are senior tackle R. C. Wallace, sophomore linebacker Danny Martin and sophomore defensive back Tario Dansby.

ARKANSAS STATE Red Wolves plan ‘thank you’ Members of the Arkansas State football team and Coach Steve Roberts will be in the Jonesboro community today passing out doughnuts and orange juice at area businesses to promote the coming season and to say “thank you” for the support for Red Wolves football.

Various players and coaches will visit eight total businesses while the day’s events will begin with Coach Roberts and two players visiting Clopton Clinic at 8 a. m. and St. Bernard’s Hospital at 8: 30 a. m.

“We are very excited about the upcoming season,” said Gleen Hart, Arkansas State’s assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions. “The team has worked extremely hard and we are very appreciative of the support we receive from area businesses. This is a small way of personally thanking them for all they do for our program.”

ASU is in its final week of fall camp and will open the season at Texas A&M Aug. 30 before returning to Jonesboro for the home opener against Texas Southern Sept. 6.
