Lineman says he’ll be a Hog

Offensive lineman Alvin Bailey of Broken Arrow, Okla., orally committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday.
Bailey, 6-4, 300 pounds, 5. 3 seconds in the 40-yard dash, is the Razorbacks ’ 10 th high school oral commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.
Bailey was offered scholarships by Nebraska, Michigan State, Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State.
His coach, Ron Lancaster, said Arkansas is getting a good one. “He’s very talented and has a lot of good football ahead of him,” Lancaster said. “I told him to make some visits and make sure he knew where he wanted to go. “ He had a lot of good schools after him and he just wanted to get this out of the way. He visited Arkansas and really liked it, and I think he made a good choice.”
Bailey’s father, who is also named Alvin, is originally from Helena-West Helena and was a walk-on for the Razorbacks basketball team in the late 1970 s.
“He father was at Arkansas over 30 years ago, so I’m sure that helped,” Lancaster said. “Alvin is a good kid.”
Bailey reports a 4. 9 time in the pro-shuttle drill, along with a 400-pound bench press, a 590 squat and a 24-inch vertical jump.
Arkansas quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee was the lead recruiter of Bailey.
In other recruiting news, offensive lineman Anthony Oden, 6-8, 300, 4. 87, of Indianapolis Lawrence North High School, who signed with the Razorbacks but didn’t meet academic requirements, has enrolled at Hargrave Military in hopes of gaining his eligibility. Oden counts as the No. 11 commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.
