TENNIS Arkansas women advance The 17 th-ranked Arkansas women’s team earned a trip to the Sweet 16 on Saturday. Arkansas got singles victories from junior Ela Kaluder and freshman Delia Damaschin to rally for a 4-3 victory at No. 14 North Carolina in a second-round NCAA Tournament match. The victory earned Arkansas a spot at the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, where the Lady Razorbacks will meet second-ranked Georgia at 3 p.m. Thursday. Arkansas scored a home victory over Georgia during the regular season, then lost to the Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament at Auburn. The Lady Razorbacks got off to a good start against the Tar Heels, winning the doubles point, but lost three of the first four singles matches, including North Carolina’s Sanaz Marand’s upset of topranked Arkansas junior Aurelija Miseviciute. Marand is ranked ninth. Kaluder, ranked 78 th and playing No. 2 singles, then beat No. 28 Katrina Tsang 7-6 (4 ), 3-6, 6-2 to square the match. Damaschin, playing No. 6 singles, secured the victory by beating Meg Fanjoy 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

— Rob Keys GOLF Arkansas women advance Sophomore Kristin Ingram shot a career-best 2-under 70 Saturday to lead the seventh-ranked Arkansas women’s team to a tie for fifth place at the 2008 NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif.. Ingram and the Lady Razorbacks counted a final-round 294 for an 882 (291-297-294 ) on the par-72, 6, 338-yard Orchard Course at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. That tied No. 14 Oklahoma State (293-293-296 ) in fifth place. The top eight teams from each of three regionals played this week advance to the NCAA Championship in Albuquerque, N. M., on May 20-23.

BASEBALL Lions dodge trouble in victory Arkansas-Fort Smith survived a near-collapse in the eighth inning and emergency closer Aaron Davidson worked around a one-out walk in the ninth as the Lions beat the Seminole State Trojans 9-6 on Saturday to reach the championship round of the NJCAA Region II baseball tournament. The No. 5 seed Lions (42-17 ) will play the first of two games at 1 p.m. today at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium. If the Lions win their first game, they will play for the region title against Connors State or Eastern State at 4 p.m. BASKETBALL Kings perfect in YSA Rock City Classic The Arkansas Kings won all four of their games in the ninth- and 10 th-grade divisions of the YSA Rock City Classic held at Pulaski Heights and Little Rock Hall on Saturday. Xavier Lindsey and Stephan Lambert were selected as co-MVPs of the tournament. The Kings defeated the Arkansas Ballers in the championship game.
