12 alligator hunters succeed in state

Twelve alligator hunters were successful during the hunt’s first weekend. The state’s first alligator hunt continues this weekend. The largest alligator killed during the opening weekend was a 12-foot, 8-inch male weighing 550 pounds that was taken on private land. John McClendon of Monticello harvested the huge gator off the McClendon Wetland Complex in Drew County. Several alligators were killed that exceeded 10 feet.
