Free astronomy events to be Friday, Saturday
The Arkansas Oklahoma Astronomical Society will host free stargazing events Friday and Saturday.
Friday’s event will be 7-11: 15 p. m. at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center in Barling. Participants will see Saturn, the moon and deepsky objects from telescopes provided by the society.
Saturday’s program will be 7: 45-11: 45 p. m. at Coleman Observatory near Van Buren and will feature views of the crescent moon, Mars and Saturn.

Recent storm damage prompted officials to close the Mountain Loop section of the horse-trail system at Pea Ridge National Military Park near Garfield.
Park employees are working to remove downed trees and the trail will reopen as soon as possible, according to a National Park Service news release. The Battle Loop of the trail system remains open.
