War Eagle celebration set near Huntsville The second annual War Eagle Appreciation Day will be Saturday at Crossbow Pavilion at Withrow Springs State Park near Huntsville. Events will include an educational float and scavenger hunt for which preregistration is required, a stream cleanup, watershed education and a cookout with musical entertainment by Shannon Wurst, Mountain Gypsies and Crossroad Country. Class hours are 8: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The course teaches the fundamentals of safe boating. Under Arkansas law, anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1986, must have completed an approved course and carry proof while operating a motorboat or sailboat on waters within the state.

Free weekend events set at nature center International Migratory Bird Day will be celebrated Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center in Barling. The theme is “Tropics to Tundra: Connecting Birds, Habitats and People.” The event will focus on the flights of migratory birds between the United States and Mexico. On Sunday, the center will present the second of four Butterfly Sundays. Children are invited to the center at 2: 30 p.m. to create a butterfly mobile and butterfly cards. Both events are free. Mount Magazine events focus on native birds Three days of bird-related free activities at Mount Magazine State Park near Paris begin today.
The Senior Naturalist Thursday program will include an introduction to birds of the park and a guided hike. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the visitor center.
Events will continue Saturday, beginning with a 9 a.m. guided bird-watching walk at the Benefield Picnic Area. There will be a family-oriented crafts-and-games session at 1 p.m. and a program featuring live birds of prey at 2 p.m. led by Lynn Sciumbato of the Morning Star Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. A session on owls will follow at 3 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a 6 a.m. guided walk from the Benefield Picnic Area to the rim of Bear Hollow.
