LITTLE ROCK — Two Arkansans were honored at a dinner at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion on April 25 hosted by the University of Arkansas board of advisors. The board, meeting for the first time in Little Rock, is successor to the National Development Council and the Campaign for the 21 st Century Steering Committee.

Honored were Johnelle Hunt of Fayetteville, who, because of possible bad weather for flying, was unable to attend. She was named Volunteer of the Year by UA Chancellor John White, who made the presentation to Hunt’s daughter, Jane Hardin of Little Rock. Hardin said there was one word to describe her mother — “remarkable.”

Board chairman Julian Stewart of San Antonio and Fayetteville presided over the program during which the Chancellor’s Medal was presented by White to Gov. Mike Beebe.

White told the gathering that 2, 072 students earned degrees from the UA in 1997 and that the total had grown to 3, 576 in 2007.

In his remarks UA System President Alan Sugg reminded the group, “Not many universities in America are loved as much as we love our university.”

Patricia Edwards of Fayetteville entertained with a vocal solo. Music early in the evening was by Wine & Roses.

A past winner of the Chancellor’s Medal attending was Lewis Epley. Previous volunteer award winners attending were Stewart, Kaneaster Hodges of Newport; Curtis Shipley; Gerald Jordan; Harriett Phillips, Jim Faulkner, Lee Bodenhamer and Charlie Whiteside, all of Little Rock; Reynie Rutledge of Searcy; and Coleman Peterson.
