State Sen. Denny Altes, RFort Smith, said he plans to run in 2010 for the House District 63 seat held by Rep. Frank Glidewell, R-Fort Smith.

Altes filed a campaign finance report this week showing that he raised $ 3, 237 and spent $ 2, 900, including $ 2, 000 on ticketed events for Sen. Gilbert Baker’s re-election campaign, from June 30 to Oct. 5 for his 2010 bid for the Republican nomination in House District 63. He reported cash on hand of $ 337.

He’s the only legislative candidate to file a campaign finance report for 2010 so far, according to the secretary of state’s office. State law allows candidates for public office to solicit or accept contributions starting two years before an election in which the candidate seeks nomination or office.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel also filed a report showing he received a $ 500 contribution on Aug. 11 for his bid for the Democratic nomination for a second term as attorney general in 2010.

Altes has been in the Senate since 2003 and previously served in the House from May 1999-2003.

Glidewell has been in the House since 2005. He’s unopposed in his bid for a third twoyear term on Nov. 4. He will be barred from seeking re-election to his House seat in 2010 under the state’s term limits amendment.
