HOT SPRINGS — A Benton man was charged Tuesday night in about $ 10, 000 in copper thefts from Entergy Arkansas Inc. in April.
Rodney Alan Adkins, 34, was at the Saline County jail when Hot Springs police filed felony charges of theft of property of more than $ 2, 500, commercial burglary and breaking or entering.
Bail was set at $ 450, 000, and Adkins is set to appear on the charges Oct. 28 in Hot Springs District Court.
According to reports, Entergy personnel learned April 6 that one of their work vehicles, a 2008 Chevrolet truck, had been found abandoned and burned in Hot Spring County.
They then determined the truck had been taken from an Entergy office and someone had entered the building and parking lot and stolen numerous spools and coils of copper from the warehouse and trucks.
A woman who had seen a televised Crimestoppers report on the thefts contacted authorities. She said she had been in contact with Adkins the day of the thefts and that he had bragged to her that he and two other men broke into the Entergy service center and stole copper and a truck. The woman said her friends told her they saw the stolen truck with copper in the back.
