A change of plea hearing has been scheduled next week for a Fayetteville man charged in connection with the theft of at least $ 140, 000 from the home of Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman John Tyson.
Ryan Matthew Silvey, 19, pleaded innocent in May to charges of transporting more than $ 5, 000 across state lines.
Silvey is scheduled to appear at a change of plea hearing Tuesday. The hearing was ordered by U. S. District Judge Jimm L. Hendren.
Johnson police issued arrest warrants for Silvey and two others in February. Silvey was arrested by the FBI Fugitive Task Force in Olathe, Kan., in connection with the Dec. 27 theft.
Silvey later violated the terms of his release by being arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to court records, but remains free on bond. He is allowed to remain out of jail as long as he attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
The theft occurred during a party thrown by a daughter of Tyson’s at the family home in Johnson. Police also arrested Logan Lorenz, 24, in connection with the theft.
Charges of theft by receiving were dropped against Lorenz because of insufficient evidence to prosecute, said Terra Stephenson, deputy prosecuting attorney.
Stephenson said that the person believed to have given Lorenz some of the stolen money has not been found. Bryce Kelly Anderson, 20, has been listed as one of Washington County’s most wanted fugitives, said Johnson police detective Denny Upton.
Upton said that he has traveled to Texas to visit with Anderson’s family but they say they don’t know where he is. Upton said Anderson is listed in national databases and that warrants will be kept active.
“We’re still occasionally turning up a few leads but not much,” Upton said. “He has literally dropped off the face of the earth.”
Anderson was believed to have traveled to Gulf Shores, Ala., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Pensacola Fla., in January, according to the sheriff’s office Web site.
