The deadline to identify traffic bottlenecks and other road-safety issues in central Arkansas has been extended until Sunday.

In three weeks, more than 2, 400 people have offered more than 3, 000 suggested improvements since Operation Bottleneck began three weeks ago, said Mark Rushing, a spokesman for Metroplan, the regional transportation planning agency.

The deadline to submit suggestions was Tuesday, but Metroplan officials said response levels have remained steady enough to extend the deadline.

“We want to make sure everyone who wants to participate gets that chance,” said Jim McKenzie, executive director for Metroplan, which is made up of 20 local governments in Pulaski, Faulkner, Lonoke and Saline counties.

To participate, central Arkansas residents can complete a brief Internet-based questionnaire by logging onto www. metroplan. org and clicking the Operation Bottleneck icon.

Metroplan will compile the data, identify problem areas and provide recommendations on how to fix the problems, Rushing said. Depending on the volume of responses, Metroplan may have the summary report available before the end of the year, he said.
