W. Memphis man held after girlfriend killed

WEST MEMPHIS — A West Memphis man was charged with first-degree murder Monday in the shooting death of his girlfriend, police said.

Samuel Williams, 57, was being held in the Crittenden County jail in Marion. West Memphis District Court Judge William “Pal” Rainey set his bail at $ 250, 000.

Williams is accused of shooting Schequietta Bell, 34, after the two argued Friday night, said Capt. Donald Oakes of the West Memphis Police Department.

The two were returning to Williams’ home on South 19 th Street when they argued, Oakes said. Bell drove Williams’ car and pulled into his driveway. Williams went inside his home, but Bell remained in the car, Oakes said.

Williams is accused of returning to the car with a. 38-caliber handgun and shooting Bell once, killing her. Williams then called police to report the shooting, Oakes said.

When police arrived, they said, Williams was standing in his yard holding a pistol. He surrendered and was taken into custody.
