Governor appointments

A television newscaster and a former state House of Representatives member were among appointees announced Thursday by the office of Gov. Mike Beebe.

The newscaster is Dawn Scott-Jones, who appears on KTHV-TV, Channel 11, in Little Rock. She was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, said Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample. The council dates back to an executive order issued in 1992 by then-Gov. Bill Clinton as modified in 1998 by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee. Its purpose is to improve physical fitness in Arkansas.

The former House member is Bobby Newman of Smackover, appointed to the Arkansas Board of Registration for Foresters.

The full slate of appointments announced Thursday by Beebe:

To the Arkansas Pygmalion Commission on Nontraditional Education for terms expiring June 30, 2012: Deniece Beckman, Fort Smith, reappointed; Sandy Button, Pea Ridge, replacing Jerry Bell; Stacey Mahurin, Little Rock, reappointed. The commission was created to work as “a clearinghouse for information regarding alternative learning environments, and to ensure that needed changes are made in curriculum, instructional approaches, school climate, and organization to improve educational outcomes for at-risk students.”

To the Boll Weevil Eradication Committee for terms expiring July 1, 2012: Laudies Brantley, England, reappointed; Bobby Gammill, Tyronza, reappointed.

To the state Fire Prevention Commission for terms expiring July 18, 2011: Charles Butler, Malvern, reappointed; Dayna Hilton, Clarksville, reappointed; Marc Lowery, Harrison, replacing Arburt Robinson.

To the Home Health Care Service Agency Advisory Council for terms expiring June 30, 2011: Monte Callicott, Jonesboro, reappointed; Marilyn Evans, Little Rock, reappointed.

To the Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology: Donna Edgmon, Springdale, for a term expiring June 30, 2011, replacing Allen Craig; Jana Hayes, Fort Smith, for a term expiring June 30, 2009, replacing Michelle Wilkerson; and Jane Willard, Cabot, for a term expiring June 30, 2011, replacing Kay Hall.

To the Arkansas Board of Registration for Foresters for terms expiring July 18, 2013: Jim Guldin, Little Rock, replacing Nancy Young; and Bobby Newman, replacing Michael Robinson.

To the state Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors for terms expiring July 1, 2012: Bob Holloway, Maumelle, replacing Bill Fletcher; and Sherman Smith, Little Rock, replacing Michael Marlar.

Beebe also appointed Debbie Hoofman, North Little Rock, to the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission for a term expiring Jan. 14, 2014, replacing Bill Scruggs. Hoofman is the wife of former state Sen. Cliff Hoofman, D-North Little Rock.

Rett Howard, Fort Smith, was reappointed to the Arkansas Building Authority Council for a term expiring July 22, 2011.

Appointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, to serve at the will of the governor, were: Julie Bridgforth, Pine Bluff; Daniel “Chris” Cothern, Fayetteville; Brenda Eagle, Searcy; Memory Frazer, Warren; Dawn Scott-Jones, Little Rock; David Strickland, Conway.
