3 people die in accidents on highways

Three people were killed in accidents around the state Friday.
Taylor C. Phelps, 15, of Charleston was killed in Fort Smith while trying to cross Rogers Avenue, which is also Arkansas 22, according to Arkansas State Police.
Phelps tried to cross in front of a Ford Escort driven by Loretta Thompson of Barling, police said. After the initial impact, Phelps rolled off the car and into the right eastbound lane where a Honda Civic driven by Cesar Ramirez of Fort Smith, hit her again, dragging her for several feet, the state police report.
Phelps was taken to St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Candice L. Clay, 25, of Forrest City died after overcorrecting the Toyota RAV 4 she was driving on Arkansas 1, about 1 1 / 2 miles south of Forrest City, state police reported.
According to the crash report, Clay drove off the west shoulder of the highway, overcorrected and caused the SUV to overturn and flip three times before coming to rest in the median. Clay was thrown out and her passenger, 32-year-old Corey Brittnum, was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis for treatment of unspecified injuries. His condition was unavailable Saturday.
Clay’s body was taken to Forrest City Medical Center.
Katie Florek, age unknown, of Helena-West Helena, died after the driver of the GMC pickup she was traveling in lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle overturned, ejecting Florek as well as driver Micheal Martin and passenger Dustin Davis, both 15 of Aubrey. They were traveling south on Arkansas 121 north of Aubrey, the report said.
The boys were taken to Forrest City Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries. Their conditions were unavailable Saturday.
