100 YEARS AGO June 15, 1908 PARAGOULD — Trouble has broken out between the families of Joe Spears and John Burrell, well-to-do farmers living five miles west of Paragould. The two men are brothers-in-law, and have lived on adjoining farms for several years. There have been bad feelings between the men and their families for a long time, and recently Burrell was arrested on the charge of attempting to assassinate Spears.
50 YEARS AGO June 15, 1958 JONESBORO — Chancellor Lee Ward of Paragould unveiled tonight a seven-point “positive and constructive” program on which he will base his campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Jonesboro policemen estimated the crowd at 1, 500 to 2, 000 sitting in the heat on the courthouse lawn.

10 YEARS AGO June 15, 1998 WASHINGTON — Arkansas ’ Senate race promises to be the most expensive political battle in the state’s history, with Washington’s money machine helping foot the bill. Members of both parties predict former U. S. Rep. Blanche Lincoln and Republican state Sen. Fay Boozman will spend at least $ 4 million between them in their bids to replace retiring Sen. Dale Bumpers, D-Ark. “By Arkansas standards, a lot of money will be spent,” said Sen. Tim Hutchinson, R-Ark.
