262 pounds of ‘pot’ seized in I-40 stops

The Arkansas Highway Police in the past month seized more than 260 pounds of a marijuana on Interstate 40 in Crawford County, the agency announced Wednesday.

In the latest confiscation, police took 80 pounds of marijuana Monday from a tractor-trailer at the Alma weigh station, according to a news release.

Leighton Williams, 24, of Lauderhill, Fla., was arrested on a charge of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

He was in the Crawford County jail Wednesday.

On May 25, police found 82 pounds of marijuana on a tractor-trailer that officers stopped on I-40, the news release states.

James Francis Kearney, 37, of El Paso, Texas, also faces a charge of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in that incident. He’s free on $ 5, 000 bond.

On May 24, police seized 100 pounds of marijuana from cardboard boxes inside a pickup that officers stopped on I-40 for a traffic violation.

Omar Alcazar, 34, of Lennox, Calif., faces the same charge as the others. He still was in the Crawford County jail Wednesday.
