An Arkansas county where state election officials watched voting and ballot counting Tuesday reported no problems at precincts during the day.

“Things have gone pretty smooth,” said Frederick Freeman, chairman of the St. Francis County Election Commission on Tuesday night.

With 98 ballot styles in a county of nearly 30, 000, Freeman said, several residents asked whether they received the correct ballots.

By 8: 30 p. m. Freeman said he knew of no problems with paper ballots used Tuesday after the county discovered that a circuit judge race pitting Richard Proctor against Todd Murray wasn’t on the ballot.

Sixteen election monitors and two state Board of Election Commissioners representatives also spent the day in the county keeping an eye on the process. A state Senate committee recently found evidence of irregularities in St. Francis County in a past election and asked last month for state supervision of the county’s voting.

The secretary of state’s office had no reports of any irregularities Tuesday, said Natasha Naragon, a spokesman for the state office.
