Roger Hill of Kirksey Middle School in Rogers is one of two principals the state Board of Education recognized as Master School Principals at its meeting Monday in Little Rock.

Debbie Heath, principal of Wynne Primary School in northeast Arkansas, also was recognized.

The designation, created in a 2003 special legislative session, honors principals who complete three years of professional development and performance evaluations, a board release states.

Master Principals receive a $ 9, 000-per-year bonus for five years upon earning the designation. They are eligible for an additional $ 25, 000 per year for five years if they are selected to serve at a low-performing school.

More than 500 principals from 70 counties have participated in Phase I of the program. Of those, 85 have continued through the process to Phase II, III and the Master School Principal designation, Beverly Elliott, director of the Arkansas Leadership Academy, states in the release.

After completing three phases of professional development at the academy, master principal candidates are evaluated by a team on personal performance, school performance and student performance.
