Six independent candidates for the state House of Representatives have qualified for the Nov. 4 ballot by submitting a petition with enough signatures of Arkansas’ registered voters, but a seventh failed to do so, the secretary of state’s office said Wednesday.

To qualify, the candidates submitted signatures equal to at least 3 percent of the gubernatorial votes cast in 2006 in the district in which they seek election.

They are Mal Stokes Jr. of Barton in House District 13. Rep. Clark Hall, D-Marvell, seeks re-election. Trent Eilts of Cabot in House District 15. Ward Republican Doug Hatcher and Lonoke Democrat Walls McCrary also are running.

Robert Philyaw of Earle in House District 54. Rep. Otis Davis, D-Earle, seeks re-election. Jeff Hall of Clinton and Marjorie LeClair of Shirley in House District 70. Russellville Democrat J. Patrick Bewley and Dover Republican Robert E. Dale also seek the seat.

Bonnie B. Brown of Mountain Home in House District 81. Mountain Home Democrat Danny K. Rowe and the winner of the GOP primary between former Sen. Gary Hunter of Mountain Home and Karen Hopper of Lakeview also will be on the ballot.

Meanwhile, John Wayne Harty of Cabot, who filed to run as an independent candidate in House District 48, failed to provide enough signatures, the secretary of state’s office said. The office verified 251, but 270 were required. Former Rep. Randy Minton of Ward and Davy Carter of Cabot seek the Republican nomination in District 48 in the May 20 primary. No other candidate has filed.
