McAllister Endowed Professorship in Piano with a special event at noon Thursday. The event honored J. W. and Emily McAllister of Memphis — both UA graduates — who gave $ 500, 000 to endow the professorship. Jura Margulis, the inaugural Emily J. McAllister professor of piano, performed at the event. The College of Health Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith received a $ 500, 000 charitable annuity from Peggy and Bill Weidman, the school announced Wednesday. The university announced plans to name a multipurpose room for the couple in the Pendergraft Health Sciences Center. The room, to be known as the Weidman Center, will be used as a classroom, a meeting room, a conference center, a continuing education center and a place for special dinners and banquets.

— ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE 1 st candidate forum April 18 in Rogers The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce will host four candidate forums in April and May, beginning with a Republican state representative forum 11: 30 a. m. April 18 at the chamber’s office, 317 W. Walnut, Rogers. The forums will allow candidates to answer specific questions from voters. Participants in the April 18 forum include Linda Bisbee, Duncan Baird, Vickey Boozman and Tim Summers. Others include a forum for Republican candidates for county positions at 11: 30 a. m. May 2; a nonpartisan forum for judicial candidates at 11: 30 a. m. May 8; and a forum for Republican candidates for county sheriff and county coroner at 11: 30 a. m. May 9.
