FORT SMITH — An Oklahoma man suspected of trying to steal an elderly woman’s purse in a Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot Monday has landed in jail.

Gary Bradway, 42, of Spiro, Okla., pleaded innocent in Sebastian County Circuit Court on Wednesday to one count of robbery after a public defender was appointed to represent him. He was being held in the county jail Wednesday in lieu of $ 15, 000 bond. Fort Smith police arrested Bradway on Tuesday after viewing a surveillance video showing him twice driving past a 75-yearold woman loading groceries into her car before pulling up next to her to snatch her purse, a police news release said.

Instead of snatching the purse, he drove in too close, hit the woman and her car and drove off.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jarrard Copeland said the woman suffered a bruise on her leg.

Detectives with the Property Crimes Task Force viewed the surveillance video and got the tag number on the white car Bradway was driving, which led to his arrest after an interview.
