100 YEARS AGO March 28, 1908 Additional returns received yesterday removed all doubt of the nomination of George W. Donaghey for governor. The late returns show Donaghey to be gaining rather than losing, as was predicted by his opponents.
50 YEARS AGO March 28, 1958 This month has been the coolest March on record at Little Rock from the standpoint of maximum temperature, the U. S. Weather Bureau reported today. Walter Hickman, chief meteorologist at Little Rock, said the warmest reading recorded at his weather station this month was 60 degrees on March 6. This compares with March 1915 when the highest temperature of the month was only 65 degrees.
25 YEARS AGO March 28 1983 JONESBORO — The investigation into the school bus crash that killed nine persons Friday indicates the bus driver didn’t brake as he approached a curve the bus missed, Jim Burnett, the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, said Sunday.
10 YEARS AGO March 28, 1998 A divided Arkansas Ethics Commission decided to endorse new rules in a deal to get Gov. Mike Huckabee to drop his lawsuit against the commission and hand over documents the commission wants in its investigation regarding his financial interests. The commission acted in two parts, approving one 3-2 and the other 3-1 with one abstention. Commissioners who voted for the settlement said it was in the panel’s best interest to get on with its work and not spend so much time in litigation.
