Weather-spotter classes offered The Benton County Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will host free weather-spotter classes at 7 p. m. Feb. 26 at Northwest Arkansas Community College’s Shewmaker Center and at 7 p. m. Feb. 28 at the Siloam Springs Community Building, 110 S. Mount Olive St. The program is co-sponsored by the National Weather Service. A National Weather Service meteorologist will teach participants how to recognize tornados and understand storm structures. Other topics covered will include updates on National Weather Service technology and procedures and ideas for organizing weather-spotter groups. Classes will last two hours, require no preregistration and are open to the public. Emergency personnel and amateur radio operators also are welcome to attend.
