EUREKA SPRINGS — As of late last week, this Victorian tourist village was commanded by Mayor Wilson.

On Monday, Mayor Joy was in charge.

Though the city soon will change out the mayor’s stationery and update its Web site, www. cityofeurekasprings. org, there’s been no change in leadership.

Rather, last weekend Mayor Dani Wilson got hitched, which shows Eureka Springs is a wedding destination for tourists and residents alike.

The mayor wed Joseph Joy, a Eureka Springs real-estate agent, in an afternoon ceremony Sept. 29 in the gardens of the Crescent Hotel.

From now on, she will be known as Mayor Dani Joy.

A honeymoon to Costa Rica is planned for November.

A New York native, Joe Joy moved from Portland, Maine, to Eureka Springs in 2005. He works for the Glenda Satterfield Agency and dabbled in local politics before the two began dating in May, Mayor Joy said Friday.

For instance, through his company he worked on the condominium project adjacent to the Crescent. Workers began laying foundations for the first two of 19 buildings in early May.

Joe Joy also was among several people whose applications for seats on the City Advertising and Promotion Commission were put on hold awhile back while the commission underwent a reorganization.

“Now, he can’t sit on the CAPC, with me being mayor,” Mayor Joy said. She knows of no law forbidding it, “but to me, that would be a conflict.”

That’s just fine with her new husband.

“I’m going to let Dani handle the politics in the family,” Joe Joy said.
