The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s department of education reform will kick off its 2007 lecture series on Friday.
William Howell, a professor in the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago, will present new research from public opinion surveys about education reform measures at noon in room 210 of the Graduate Education Building.
All lectures are free, open to the public and include lunch.
The lecture series will include at least 11 speakers and run through April.
The lineup includes Ken James, commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education; Paul Peterson, a Harvard scholar who writes extensively on school choice; and Susan Zelman, superintendent of public instruction in Ohio.
“We have a fantastic lineup of lectures this academic year,” said Jay Greene, head of the education reform department, in a news release. “ We are bringing in the leading scholars in their fields whose work addresses some of the most pressing issues in education reform. That’s part of our mission as a department: to bring the latest knowledge from research to inform policymakers, educators and the general public.
