Posted on Sunday, October 1, 2006
Ben Barnes, a political consultant who has worked in Texas and national politics for decades, will address members of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, at 5 p. m. Monday in the Arkla Room in Ross Hall.
The lecture is open to the public.
Barnes, a former Texas lieutenant governor and speaker of the House, will discuss his book, Barn Burning, Barn Building: Tales of a Political Life from LBJ to George W. Bush.
In the book Barnes recounts his interactions with President Lyndon Johnson, the rise of the Texas Democratic Party in the 1960 s, and his revelation during the 2004 presidential campaign that he helped get George W. Bush into the National Guard. He also proposes strategies for strengthening the Democratic Party of today.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the Little Rock Political Animals Club.
