Concealment: an art in itself
Posted on Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Although some brides don’t mind their tattoos being visible at their weddings, some prefer to cover them up.
In a strapless wedding gown, making a tattoo disappear or become less visible isn’t easy, but there are a few things a bride can try.
Lois Ames of the Briar Patch bridal store in Fayetteville says she advises brides to cover tattoos with makeup, “or get a dress that covers it with a high enough neck or wear a shawl.” Depending upon the location of a tattoo, a bride can conceal it by wearing a gown with sleeves or wide straps, suggests Barbara Thalheimer, co-owner of B & B Bridal and Formal Wear in Little Rock. She says she doesn’t recommend trying to camouflage a tattoo with makeup because it can rub off on and ruin a wedding dress.
Bridal Cottage in North Little Rock has had brisk sales of the Covermark Tattoo Cover kit, says Beth Copic, store co-owner. She has trouble keeping it in stock; it’s currently on back order, and she has a waiting list of customers for it.
The kit contains lotion, a primer, two shades of makeup, a finishing powder, an applicator sponge and a powder brush, according to the Covermark Web site, www. covermarkusa. com. It retails for $ 30 and is available in shades of fair / medium, medium / dark and deep.
